Question by say what: A good film editing school?
Which of these is the best place to study film editing?
NYU’s SCPS – Certificate in Editing (teaches avid and fcp)
Manhattan Edit Workshop – Intensive course, teaches avid and fcp
The Edit Center – Intensive course, teaches only fcp
All these are 6 week intensive programs, located in Manhattan, and cost around the same. Yet they all seem very different.
Please give a reason for your answer. Thanks!!!

In my experience, you’ll want Avid experience. FCP experience is good, but Avid is essential, since that’s what most bigger companies still use. Little indy productions might use FCP, but even those sometimes rent an Avid system to do their editing. You’ll have a leg up if you learn Avid. The certificate is kinda take-it-or-leave-it – it doesn’t usually mean much to most companies.
