Children of the Storm features youth of New Orleans recounting their personal experiences of Hurricane Katrina, using artwork to illustrate their stories. The interviews took place during the students’ first semester back in New Orleans following Katrina (Spring 2006). The film was shot during several after school video production classes that were sponsored by the New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC). Within the classes, students learned about documentary filmmaking by interviewing each other and serving as sound and camera assistants. The film presents the candid impressions of the children and their hopes for recovery efforts.
