A father remembers his daughter through music. —————————————————————— This is a short film that I had created with Anna Stovell and Matt Jennings from my Film Studies class for our A2 level ‘Practical Application of Learning’ section of our coursework. (READ THIS AFTER WATCHING – SPOILERS) It was a big job and we ran into quite a few problems, but I think it turned out pretty well in the end. Lighting was something that kept getting me, since I used a 35mm adapter with a 50mm f/1.8 aperture lense. (Obviously wasn’t letting enough light through at some points) for some STRANGE reason, the lighting didn’t always turn out what it looked like on my camera’s lcd screen! – so the struggle in fixing the lighting problems came in post (editing) – I did my best 😛 Also, the sound of the piano didn’t come out too well (in my mind). I don’t really know how to record live music straight to a cheap microphone. We settled with what we had and just spent some time in trying to find the best angle to record the music from. Personally, I don’t like ‘dream/memory sequences’, they feel too cliche when it comes to amateur filmmaking. Yet, the idea still managed to get into the short film as we were discussing on what exactly in the short film is showing that they are related as father and daughter? So we were pretty much forced to put it in, as we had already filmed the beggining of the short film and the problem had only become apparent to us …
