Question by Thank God For Mommy-: Is Anti-Semitism and racism alive and well in Hollywood, U.S.A? ?
(this post is from my husband-he makes a good point)
Our film Anne B. Real received two independent Spirit Award nominations. The film won festivals all over the world. Yet right here, in Hollywood, Ca on an industry leading data base for everything that is Hollywood film and television, the International Movie Data Base…you will see : ‘Anne B. Real’ is voted the worse film in Hollywood.
ABR is a story about a black Cuban female rapper inspired by the diaries of Anne Frank.
I’m black, I’m Cuban and I grew up with Jewish neighbors in a predominately, white varied community. I thought I had an idea of what racism and anti-Semitism was.
But it’s not until one day, May 13th, Mothers day 2007, that I can see how blind minds and souls continue to perpetuate both racism and anti-Semitism every chance they get. Every time those injustices are not confronted head on we are as guilty for allowing them to continue. I’ll never hide or back down against both.
Anti-Semitism and racism are alive and well in Hollywood, Ca.
It simply makes no sense for the Hollywood lynching Anne B. Real has received at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315775/. After much talk, emails and conversations with opened minded people, the possibility smacked several of us in the face.
A major reason an award winning film like Anne B. Real is voted the worse film is because the movie empowers UNIFIED Jewish and Black possibilities of community.
I learned early there’s a lesson to be learned everywhere. Anne B. Real leaves audiences wanting to read Anne Frank. We made a film that proved you do not need to use the “N” word to tell an authentic Urban story. We proved that the voice and values of a young Jewish girl who lived and died during the holocaust transcends all cultures. Anne B. Real inspires young females of all ages, races, nationalities and religions to rise above all circumstances. I often say The Diaries of Anne Frank are the ultimate self-help book.
A final note; a woman, Lisa France, directed Anne B. Real. Maybe that’s the problem. Hollywood isn’t ready for a “White female director making Jewish-Black empowerment films.
What can you do? If you saw Anne B. Real vote at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315775/. If you didn’t, see it for yourself. Get it directly from the filmmakers at http://www.morofilms.com/. And please pass let me know what you think.
