Question by Timothy: I’m changing my major from pharmacy to accounting with a minor in film studies?
So I’m in my third year at Pasadena City College (community college). I would’ve stayed just 2 years but I decided that I wanted to finish organic chemistry before moving on to the university. My first year I got all As mostly in GE classes and Statistics and 1 C in Calculus 1 (what else, right?!). And my second year I focused on one full year of General Biology (Zoology and Cellular Biology) and one full year of General Chemistry. I got As in Philosophy and Psychology but I had to take a W in macroeconomics. However I retook that economics class and received an A. In all 4 biology and chemistry classes, I got pretty much got a B- in all of them, meaning I barely made Bs. I wasn’t even working or volunteering or doing an internship or research, etc. either. It’s this third year where things really went downhill. I took Organic Chemistry 1 and Calculus 2 and had to take Ws in both. If I stayed I would’ve only earned Cs at the most. So now I’m retaking Calculus 2 in the winter intersession and I’m probably going to have to take another W. I feel like I should try to retake Calculus 1 and then Calculus 2 to really do well but I’m also wondering if it’s even worth it to pursue pharmacy anymore. 4 Ws does not look good and as I said, I’m not that great at science, even if it was just general biology and general chemistry. Even if I did manage to get into a pharmacy school, I probably wouldn’t be able to handle the curriculum. To be honest, I only chose to pursue pharmacy because it seemed like a career that would pay well and one that wasn’t stressful, plus a Pharm D has many career applications (work in a clinic, as a drug consultant, etc.) . In all honesty, my real interest lies in film and writing but that’s obviously not a realistic career path in today’s age where everything is going digital. So I have a new plan in mind. I’m good at math all the way through Precalculus/Trigonometry(a course I aced in HS) and algebra-based physics and I also did well in my college economics class, so I’m thinking of changing my major to accounting. I like how it has many different applicable fields and how it’s a business degree that can help teach me about budgeting, etc. And I want to minor in film studies because ultimately I want to take my accounting degree and work in the film industry. I just want to be part of the filmmaking process. I’m hoping to make it into producing, as my degree could help teach me about organization and budgeting, etc. I’m even considering going for my MBA. What do you think?
