This is a music video to the song “Closer” by NIN, produced while attending films school at USC about 15 years ago. The guys in the video are the members of Subversion, a local San Diego band in 1996. I was 17 years old, and enrolled in USC’s Music Video Production course. The assignment was to produce (direct, shoot, and edit) a single music video over the duration of the semester. Out of complete passion for film production, I knew that one video was not going to be enough for me. By the end of the semester, I had the great pleasure of completing three music videos. I had asked Steve Hendrick (Vocals) if I could produce a video for their band, Subversion. After shooting their original song “Head Fuck”, the guys were kind enough to work with me on shooting a second video, this time featuring NIN song “Closer”. My personal goal was to re-create my production style in a way that was specific & appropriate to each of the three different songs and recording artists. This meant completely re-inventing my approach in directing and editing three times. Like every production, I learned so much from the experience, and couldn’t have had more fun during the process.
