Question by Puck: Help with becoming a screenwriter?
I want to someday become a screenwriter making comedies, and to me it seems like a lot of comedic screenwriters get there start in standup, which is also something I’d like to do. Do you think I’d have a better shot at being a screenwriter if I did standup or should I focus my time more on writing scripts instead?

You have a better chance of being a screenwriter if you write. And write. And write. And then write some more.
Stand-up is a tough gig; you’ve got to have good pacing and delivery and be able to think on your feet (sort of like selling a screenplay). Writers have the luxury of being able to think the gag through all the way and completely control the every aspect of the delivery environment.
