Strictly speaking, you don’t need to go to college to write a screenplay. But therein lies the problem: there are always more people trying to make it than those who do. If you go to a school with a good film/writing program, you have an opportunity to make connections and get feedback on your work before you put yourself out there – and if things don’t work out, at least you’ve got the degree to fall back on.
