Question by km: Film permit?..sure hope not..?
Ok so I’m a student filmmaker and I’m hopefully starting to make a film that I came up with. One of my scenes calls for one of my characters to steal liquor from a liquor store. I was just wondering if anyone knew if I needed a permit to do this? I was just going to go takl to the manager of the store and see what they said. Some of my scene is going to be right outside of the store too. Would takling to the manager and maybe getting them to sign some sort of contract stating my film plans be ok?..I know film permits are expensive and I’m not completely sure one how to get one..so I’m hoping that I dont have to get one.
-thanks

I used to do a lot of filming for a local tv station when I was a teen and we would usually just ask permission from a manager of a business that we filmed in or around, and they were always ok with it. I would think a contract would only be required if you might possibly damage the store or the products, or if they have to temporarily close down for the shoot. Just don’t film around a bank using realistic-looking guns without permission, I learned from experience…but I did get good video of cops pointing guns and yelling at us.
