Question by The B: How would i start a career in Film production?
Hi, i’m a 17 year old male and i’m intersted in becoming a Film Producer. I was just wondering how i would start getting real experience before applying for a Film course in Melbourne. I heard Film courses were not worth the money spent on the course.
I live in Australia, Victoria by the way.
My current experience:
– i’ve started posting my own films on Youtube. (Directed students, teachers and friends). Search “KnifeSoldier” if you wanna see them.
– I’ve searched for “Talent Agencies” although i don’t know how to start with them. Looking forward to becoming a movie extra or something to do with real production.

– I’m taking year 11 Drama class, going well with that.
It’d be great of you could give a small guide or comment on my progress.

I don’t have any personal experience but in my Mass Communication class we had a film producer come talk to us. He had graduated from our university (Texas Tech University) and moved to California. He got a job at some studios where they shot films and slowly worked his way up by networking.
I dunno how helpful that is, but I would say the best thing you could do is to network. Try to get to know anyone you can in the industry and try really hard to get good internships. I would love to work for a record label and my goal is to get a internship for one.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
