Question by prettiday: Anyone able to offer some advice?
Well I will try and keep this as brief as possible. My fiancee served six years in the air force to earn money for school. He has always wanted to be a filmmaker and it is that goal that kept him going thru some very tough times in the military. His term was up in March last year where he promptly applied to NY Film Academy, was accepted, and even won a $ 10,000 grant from Brett Ratner. Well, it turned out that his MGI bill would only cover $ 4000 of the remaining 20,000 tuition. He tried to apply for student loans but even with a strong co signer the banks had clamped out at that point and refused to give out a loan. He was devastated and it took a huge toll on him. He is an incredibly talented writer and a visionary, and it kills me to see him so depressed. He feels as if he is wasting his time and talent. Now he has opted for a more extreme alternative. He wants to sign up with Blackwater or some other contracting firm and go overseas for six months. This is an extremely dangerous alternative, and one I’d prefer him to opt out of, but I also don’t want to stand in the way of his dreams.
Does anyone have any ideas of any option that we have not explored yet, that may give him the ability to attend school? Thanks

Has he applied to other film schools? I’ve never heard of the NY Film Academy, and there are other very fine programs which cost less than $ 30K. Applying to only one option, and if it doesn’t work out, doing something extreme like signing up with a defense contracting service doesn’t sound like someone who is handling stress very well. His time in the military may have affected him more than he (and you) realizes.
