Question by Javi: Which are the best film schools/colleges in USA?
Want to be a director and Need to know some colleges where they have film as a major? I’m pretty good at making videos, and um I’m in the TOP 5 of my class and a GPA of 3.84? Suggestions? UCLA?

The problem with UCLA (public) is that they do not admit students into the film major until the junior year of college and that almost everyone who is admitted started at UCLA as a freshman and has been an undeclared major or has declared another “temporary” major. Most applicants for the film major are rejected when they apply in their sophomore year of college and end up having to graduate with another major. If you are not a California resident, admission to UCLA is extremely difficult no matter how good your high school record is. Only ten percent of the students are out of state.
Now we can move on to NYU (private). Admission to the film program at NYU’s Tisch School is separate from admission to NYU and students must apply to both NYU and to Tisch. Finally, there is the University of Southern California (private). I am not sure if their film program requires separate admission.
The news gets worse. These are the only film programs whose graduates have any reasonable chance of a good steady work in the film industry and many of their graduates do not find good steady work in it. There are many more applicants for virtually every film industry job than there are openings available.
Chapman University in California and Columbia College (sic) in Chicago (sic) probably have the next two best film schools, but their graduates usually fare even worse.
If you still want to pursue this career, at least you have the necessary information about how difficult a road it is.
