HS profile:
Frosh – History, English, Biology, PE
[no foreign language, dropped math – reason – familial issues. also, school did not offer ap/honors]
Sophomore (current) – History/H, English/h, Environmental Science (online), Algebra 1 [no ap avail.]
Junior (projected) – History/AP, English/AP, Art history AP, Lab science (undecided), Geometry
Senior (projected) – History/AP, English AP, arts-oriented course AP, Algebra 2
Projected SAT (according to pretests) – ~mid 700 Verbal, ~550-650 Math
ACT – 26
So yahoo, what’s the deal? I’ve considered taking math in the summer but my mom says my time would be better spent doing something I enjoy (i.e, taking a film editing class, festivals, clubs, job, etc..).
So, how will this lack of math play in the end?
That’s comforting, but I want to know if this is going to affect chances at the Ivies.
I didn’t go to school at ALL during primary/middle (seriously), but for some odd reason I’m managing decent HS grades.
btw – essay = 10/10
Recs = 10/10
E.C = lacking in volume, but will revolve around a single field (which I hear demonstrates genuine interest instead of busy-body).
I’m just super concerned about my math. I need the truth!! I feel ashamed when I get the “4.0” GPA awards since I’m taking 2 remedial classes (though I never failed SP 1)…is that normal? My cousins are at Yale and Brown….
Oh yeah, how is that foreign language going to play out? Will that hurt?
Will there be an option to say *no electives offered in middle school* and *brother had mental breakdown freshman year, impeded with studies* on applications??

Bottom line – for an arts degree, you will have to pass the equivalent of college algebra (think Algebra 2, kicked up a notch). Don’t be too stressed out. I would take the Algebra 2 and roll with it. You have so many other AP classes, you should do alright.
