Yes, it is possible. The advantage that college (film school, in particular) gives to people in the film industry is not necessarily the degree, but the experience and the people you meet in school. The best film schools are the ones that actually force you to make films, not just learn about them.
How to become a film producer without going to college? You’re right – it’s hard. Really, really hard. You absolutely have to find some way to work on films. You have to build up experience and a network of people. And you have to be the very best at every job you do on any film set – even if it’s unpaid work where you’re fetching coffee. How can you find film sets? Well, the easiest way is to go to film school! 😉 But barring that, scour Craigslist for local independent films looking for volunteers. If you can find just one project to work on, and you can stand out as an awesome hard worker on that project, you will be able to find the next gig, and the gig after that.
