Question by Timothy B: Does Jeff Anderson deserve a Best Supporting Actor nomination?
Kevin Smith’s film ‘Clerks’ must certainly be regarded as a very influential independent film (with a strong emphasis on the word “independent”). Perhaps the strongest performance in the film was Jeff Anderson’s portrayl of RST Video store employee Randall Graves. Anderson’s dead-on performance of the mouthy Graves (all attitude) almost carries the film from beginning to end.
Fast forward to 2006 and the release of ‘Clerks 2.’ In what could have been a weak outing typical of comedic sequels, the film received a warm reception from critics (a solid “B” grade on Yahoo movies) and an 8 minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Anderson in particular corralled some great comments in all of the positive reviews.
So I ask, is Anderson deserving of a nomination for Best Supporting Actor? Note the use of the word “nomination.”
Certainly if the South Park flick can get nominated for a obscenity-laced song (“Blame Canada”) the Academy can certainly get behind Randall Graves

Gee Tim, you’ve obviously given this a lot of thought. A LOT! Ya know, I don’t loose any sleep over any of the award ceremonies (which there are tons of!). I don’t care about Jeff Anderson or Mel Gibson or anyone else in Hollywood, because ya know what, it has absolutely no effect on my life whatsoever!
