There are sooo many books about it. From Lloyd Kaufman’s “Make Your Own Damn Movie”, to “The Filmmaker’s Handbook” (Ascher/Pincus). The latter will teach you everything you ever need to know about the tools of filmmaking, from microphones to editing systems. It’s a surprisingly cheap book, and will teach you more than film school would, trust me.
Robert Rodriguez’ “Rebel without a Crew” is an damn good book about the spirit of independent filmmaking. I start flipping through at a bookstore and couldn’t put it down.
