Question by Francis T: How decide filmmakers, when a finished motion picture runs in a cinema?
Best answer:

They take into account many factors…mostly to do with money and when more people are likely to see their film! Main ones being –
Competition – what films from the same genre or style are out around the same time.
Holidays – if it is a family film or blockbuster for example it may be better to release during or just before a holiday season.
Current affairs – in light of what’s in the news would it seem inappropriate to release at the time and potentially be bad for PR.
There are sometimes other reasons such as when leading stars will be able to commit to publicity for a film etc. but I think I’ve covered the main ones.
