Question by Peggy: How much should I charge for the rights to use my photos in a documentary?
I have two rare photos in my private collection that a documentary maker would like to use in an upcoming film. What, if anything, should I charge for their use? Are there any other legal considerations I should keep in mind?

Well will the images just be shown in passing, or will they be used as part of the film? Is this a major motion picture type documentary, or is it something for classroom/educational use? All things need to be considered.
I’d read the contract very carefully. I wouldn’t give anything more than a one-time limited use release. Meaning they can use it for the purpose of their film, but it cannot be used by them for any other purposes. Pricing of course will depend how its used, and what type of production this since obviously a motion picture should get a higher price than a classroom film.
Also, are you the artist? If not, then you really have no right to issue permission or receive profits from their use. You can allow someone to film them for informational use, but you couldn’t receive profit from the work.
