Clare Elizabeth Carroll, a former one-room schoolhouse teacher who later taught fourth and fifth grades in Toledo Public Schools and was known for her strong, independent spirit, died Thursday in St. Luke’s Hospital. She was 100 years old. Mrs. Carroll, a resident of Swan Creek Retirement Center in Toledo since 2005, apparently died of gastrointestinal bleeding, a family member said. She lived …
