Question by Daniel K: Is San Francisco a good place to live for an aspiring filmmaker?
I’ve been to New York and LA and they’re not for me. I prefer smaller markets and cities with a more friendly vibe. If San Francisco isn’t the next best place then what are some other good cities to live in for film (other than NY and LA)? Also is it a challenge for working filmmakers to find industry jobs there?

I’m not a filmmaker, but I can tell you this about the Bay Area (that’s what we call it here in Cali). Both sides of the Bay are flourishing with performing and fine arts. On one side of the Bay is SF. So much culture and the art scene flourishes. On the other side of the Bay you have Oakland and Berkley. They are also flourishing art scenes. There are a lot of theatres, galleries, photographers, artists, etc that network together. Its definitely something to look into. The only thing is that it is a very expensive place to live. I know its not a big help from a filmmakers perspective. Might I suggest taking a vacation and just checking it out. Its nothing like LA.
