Question by Hmmmmmm: What is the difference between filmmaking and digital filmmaking?
Best answer:
Answer by lare
film is, well film and very traditional.
digital filmmaking starts out as digital from a camcorder and then edited in a digital computer. the final product is then converted to film for theatrical projection. digital filmmaking saves a tremendous amount of money in production. first it saves in the initial film and processing cost, but more importantly the digital editing saves time and money over traditional film editing. if the production needs lots of SGI effects, then starting with digital is a great help. digital editors also handle complex audio layering requirements with ease.
while many traditionalists prefer film, the fact is most new productions are scanned and digitally edited as an intermediate step. looking at the credits at the end of major films will be very enlightening as to what is happening at hollywood. The term digital filmmaking is often used derisively as a slam on making cheap productions using consumer camcorders. The film industry has its own camcorders, including ones that mount Panavision lenses. it is not sleazy, it is the future like it or no.
