A fantastic (inexpensive) camcorder to start out with is the Panasonic PV-GS400. It has a ring for manual focus/zoom. This is really nice having these manual features on such an inexpensive camcorder. The pv-gs400 also comes comes with a wired remote with a built in mic, zoom control, and record button. This camcorder records onto Mini DV, which is the best format for editing currently. One things I really love about this camcorder is its Optical Image Stablizer. It works very well in keeping your videos looking more professional. This camcorder has 3CCDs as well, which is what alot of professional cams have these days. This camcorder is said to be the greatest deal overall of any camcorder made. Check for the cheapest prices on eBay.
