Question by Anraskal: Are there other filmmakers besides W. Herzog who are as equally devoted to documentary as they are to fiction?
Best answer:
Answer by estragon
Probably no one who moves as fluidly between genres, but there are a few I can think of off the top of my head: Agnes Varda (Vagabond, The Gleaners and I), Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Stop Making Sense), and Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, 4 Little Girls). Also the Canadian director Sturla Gunnarsson (Beowulf & Grendel, Air India 182).
Fiction directors who have dabbled in documentaries include Wim Wenders, Martin Scorsese, Sydney Pollack, Michel Gondry…
U.S. documentary directors who’ve worked in drama include Barbara Kopple and Joe Berlinger.
