Question by Rock of Life: Becoming a film editor?
I’ve been taking film editing in high school ever since freshman year (I’m now a junior) and I’m conisdering becoming an editor when I’m older. I want to major in filmmaking and eventually get a job as a film editor. My teacher told me I could freelance or get a job at a news station.
I have a couple of questions:
How difficult is it to find work if I decide to freelance?
Could I get a job as an independant filmmaker?
Is it hard to find editing jobs for local tv/news stations?
Thanks.

Freelance is hard to do unless you really sell yourself. You can get a job but usually have to start at bottom, unfortunetly you probably wont find an editing job right out of high school. I am a film student at The Art Institute of Phoenix and you have to work hard to get into the field. You should work on some projects and create a portfolio to show prospective employers.
