I’ve always been so jealous until I thought, why am I jealous? There are salt flats right here in Utah that I’ve never even been to. Ok sure, they aren’t the largest in the world and I still wouldn’t mind visiting the flats in Bolivia, but salt flats are salt flats and when they extend farther than the eye can see what much is the difference between Utah and Bolivia? So, I finally did it. I went to the Bonneville Salt Flats today. Alone, yes, but better alone than not at all. The Bonneville Salt Flats are famous for the races and land-speed records that have taken place there. There are many movies that have filmed sections there, most recently Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, as well as The World’s Fastest Indian and Independence Day, among others. The salt flats are close to Wendover, which is a town on the Utah/Nevada border. It’s actually where I was scuba certified, a heated lake there just over the Nevada border. Wendover on the Utah side is pretty boring, then you cross over the Nevada side and it’s a mini-Vegas. I decided Sunday is a good day to go, there was hardly any people or traffic through Salt …
