Question by H.U. Soldier: Can someone proof read my movie summary for me?
Roger & Me is a documentary directed by filmmaker Michael Moore. It is mainly about how Roger Smith, the chairman of General Motors, closed several of GM’s plants in its birthplace of Flint, Michigan. He then opened several plants in Mexico to save/make more money. As a result of the plants closing, 30,000 of Flint’s citizens were left jobless. So much of the city’s populace being out of work caused a recession that completely destroyed Flint’s economic system. Flint tried desperately to fix itself economically. The Flint Convention and Visitors Bureau made several attempt to do this through tourism. They had a Hyatt luxury hotel built in order to attract tourists. In addition to the Hyatt, they consented to the opening of an indoor theme park called Auto World and shopping center entitled the Water Street Pavilion. The Hyatt soon went bankrupt. Auto World and the Water Street Pavilion also proved to be unsuccessful and eventually closed down. Throughout the movie Michael Moore makes an unnumbered amount of unsuccessful attempts to bring Roger Smith to Flint so that he can see the desolate, unhappy town he has turned it into. After the town’s failed attempt to better itself through enlarging its tourism population, several celebrities came to Flint. Famous performers performed and gave speeches to better the mood of the city’s unemployed population. This works to a certain degree. By the end of the movie Michael Moore has still been unable to bring Roger Smith to Flint and the city’s economic system is still in pieces and it still is today.
