Question by Kat I: Chances of getting into UCLA?
Like many others I am suffering through the anxiety of waiting for colleges to respond. So, please tell me if I should get my hopes up about getting into UCLA.
Unweighted GPA: 3.7
Weighted GPA: 4.4
SAT Score: 2050 (680 Reading, 670 Math, 700 Writing)
SAT II Scores: Literature – 740
Mathematics Level 1 – 690
US History – 590
I am an IB Diploma candidate with also AP NSL Government and AP Calculus under my belt.
I am an avid theater participant. I’ve done twelve school shows, four of which I’ve stage managed, four I’ve been the program designer, one as construction crew head, one as house manager, and one as the publicity crew head. Last year I won the annual Production Award. I have an internship at the Shakespeare Theater Company in DC (I live in Maryland) and I have worked on three shows as a Production Assistant at a professional theater.
I take a film class at my school and have directed several short films.
I enjoy writing and have placed as an honorable mention in a local writing contest.
I play the piano and the violin. Not professional, and with a private teacher, but I can play them.
I am in the Italian Honor Society, am the secretary for the Vietnamese Orphans Relief Fund at my school, and have volunteered at a day care.
I spent a month last summer studying abroad in Italy, and two weeks the summer before that participation at the National Student Leadership Conference.
Also, for family history, my family and I immigrated to the US from Russia. I am a dual citizen and am fluent in both Russian and English.

i speak russian too! though my folks came from Ukraine and i was born here. it seems like you really have a chance. colleges like to see people stand out and you’ve participated a lot in theater, which is truly impressive. you also seem well rounded otherwise, and your grades are pretty good. the language thing has gottta help. i’d say you have a pretty good chance. good luck!
