Question by James M: College offers what should i do?
Hey , I come from a small town in ireland called dundalk. My local college has a film course for 4 years. I love film and id love to direct or be a cinematographer but Im no fool to how hard it would be to make a living and getting work. My other choice is a respected media course in tallaght were id learn graphic design, photography, website design , tv production etc etc. Id have to travel 3 hours to college and 3 horus home bu that wouldn bother me. But then im not following what i truly would love to do which is film. I could go tallaght and do film in my spare time but i dont feel id be making films to my full potential without going and doing a film course.
Any advice would be great.

Why don’t you go to your local college and ask them what kinds of jobs graduates of the film course get?
There is, of course, a good chance that you would not be making films to your full potential at most of the jobs that are available to graduates of the film course, but on the other hand you might decide that it was worth the risk to at least give it a shot.
If the 6 hours of round-trip travel is every day, that alone would be quite exhausting. I’ve had jobs with that kind of commute, and although it was on buses so I could spend that time reading, it is still difficult.
You could also ask the people who run the media course whether any of their graduates get jobs working in films.
Whichever you choose, good luck.
