(1888PressRelease) David L. White, Miramax executive and a leading strategic consultant for home entertainment and other industries, announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the company after a year-and-a-half relationship.
Los Angeles – During his tenure with Miramax, White was part of a team that Mike Lang, former Miramax CEO, assembled to negotiate distribution deals for packaged media and the execution of retail placement strategies of the Miramax film library. Filmyard Holdings acquired Miramax and its film assets from The Disney Company during December 2010 for a reported $ 660 million.
“I am extremely satisfied and proud of what the team accomplished during the first year at Miramax,” said White, a twenty-year veteran of developing strategic initiatives for investment firms and manufacturers marketing consumer-packaged goods. “I was happy to assist my friend Mike Lang as a consultant, and then put my thriving consulting business on hold when he asked me to join full time.”
Although White had limited experience in the entertainment industry, he worked closely with distribution partners Lionsgate and Echo Bridge Entertainment to help guide home entertainment and create market strategies that targeted both retail and digital formats. White has also been instrumental in overseeing the financial progress Lionsgate and Echo Bridge made against minimum guarantees paid to Miramax as part of their distribution deals.
“I didn’t hesitate to dedicate myself 100 percent to Miramax because Mike is a true visionary and represents the future of entertainment. Plus, I’m a huge believer in the Miramax brand. I knew Miramax was the exciting challenge I needed,” added White. “Now, however, with the first year of the distribution plan completed, the next stages are in the capable hands of Lionsgate and Echo Bridge.”
According to a January 17, 2012 Los Angeles Times story “the company has added $ 325 million of contracted cash flow since it went independent, including $ 190 million from deals with digital distributors, including Netflix and Hulu, and $ 120 million from new DVD and Blu-ray deals.”
The same Los Angeles Times story reported that Richard Nanula, Miramax chairman, said “the company’s improved financial situation allowed it to issue debt in a $ 500-million recapitalization this fall that has already returned the majority of the new Miramax owners’ invested capital.”
“I’m very appreciative and grateful for the opportunity to work with Ron Swartz of Lionsgate Entertainment, Michael Rosenblatt of Echo Bridge Entertainment and Dave Rubenstein at Sony DADC. Partnering with these great organizations has been critical to our success,” White added.
White reflected, “When I started in business, my father gave me some great advice: Surround yourself with great people and success is inevitable. I’ve always remembered that and at Miramax, we did just that with great people and great partners. It’s truly a recipe for success.”
Following a bit of rest and relaxation and spending time with his family, White plans to focus on his charities, advise the current clients of his successful consulting business, Centric Industries Inc., and add to the real estate holdings of his other business, DaLor Investment Group.

Question by That-Dude: Odds of getting hired as directory of photography for a feature film?
I have been interested in film ever since I was 10 years old or so. I was wondering what you think the odds of getting hired as the director of photography for an average feature film, such as a film like “The Hangover” or “The Proposal” or something that isn’t a multi-million dollar budget. Here are the circumstances:
Director of photography for several independent short films entered in film festivals, starting at age 15 up to present (24 years old).
Director of photography for several commercials, starting at small commercials for friend’s websites to bigger commercials for corporations.
Director of photography for 6 years in a corporation filming training videos under contract for other corporations such as Sears, Samsung, etc.
Director of photography for independent feature films entered in film festivals.
B.A. in Film/Cinematography and M.A. in Film/Cinematography
Director of photography in multiple student films in college.
Currently a freelance director of photography for commercials and movies.
Experience concerning cameras:
Digital amateur 8mm tape cameras (such as Sony HVR-Z1U)
16mm film cameras
35mm film cameras
Digital 35mm cameras
Digital professional cameras (such as Sony CineAlta F35)
Camera support, tripods, etc.
Matteboxes
All lenses
All filters
Basically, everything about cameras.
What do you think?
In the title: director of photography* not “directory of photography”

David Is Dying took America by storm on the film festival circuit last year. BLACK WORLD CINEMA proudly presents their special two day screening of this gripping and harrowing movie.
From UK writer/producer/director Stephen Lloyd Jackson, comes this gritty psychodrama. As a young boy David fell in love with his mother, a beautiful French/Caribbean woman. Roxanne, a prostitute, lived a life of alcohol and cocaine addiction. She would often entertain her rich male clients, unaware that her son, David (aged 10) would be spying on her. After her death, caused by a drug overdose, David vowed to recapture her spirit in another woman many years later. After David (aged 36), met Carla, whom for him was a reincarnation of his late mother Roxanne, he went on to developed an obsessive fixation with her. His neurotic, paranoid behavior resulted in his obsession with her. Whenever David felt Carla rejected him, he would have frequent affairs with other women, thus resulting in him contracting HIV.
In 2011, David Is Dying became the first UK movie in the history of the American Black Film Festival to scoop two grand jury prize awards for Best Actor Lonyo Engele and Best Director Stephen Lloyd Jackson, beating off Hollywood heavyweights in the process. Critics at the 15th ABFF gave the film positive reviews too. The film went on to win a further four awards at the New Wave Los Angeles International Film Festival and Best International Film award at the Urban Mediamakers Film Festival.
The HIV disease is the backdrop for this nihilistic and tragic story, which also questions possessive behavior in relationships. David Is Dying also encapsulates many other interesting and disturbing issues that are rarely exposed in modern cinema.
After the two screenings in Chicago at the ICE, there will be a panel discussion regarding the seriousness of HIV amongst African Americans.
