Question by BeLikeBenFranklin: Documentary filmmakers — How do you ask for permission from a company to show their product in your doc?
I need to show a certain household product in my upcoming documentary … and I probably should get permission to show it. I will be showing their product in a very positive light … and in theory, my doc should bring their product positive promotion. But the pessimist side of me fears I’ll word it wrong and they’ll say no thank you … and then I’m stuck empty handed.
Does anyone out there have a smooth and prooven delivery line to coax companies to say yes?

Write a letter stating exactly how their product will be used. Don’t be deceptive about anything you plan to do. If they decline, find another product with parallel ingredients (perhaps a generic) and write their parent company.
Good luck!
