www.FilmSensei.com – Another piece of filmmaking equipment from India has arrived here at FilmSensei.com. This time Mat Nastos takes a look at the Cine City Camera Shoulder Support System. I have to say that after two orders I am suitably impressed with the quality of the low budget guerilla filmmaking equipment from India. Not only have both my packages arrived incredibly quickly (under a week from placing my order to receiving it at my front door), but the items themselves have been great. So far, the indie filmmaking equipment from Indian company, the Cine City, has been well worth the money.
a Neil Capolongo film. Wedding musician, Neil, somehow works out his frustration over where his musical career and his marriage to Mary have ended up by obsessing on movies having to do with impending nuclear holocaust. His dreams are about his career, his marriage and his obsessive nucleomituphobia. Made in 1990, “Nuclear Nightmares” ( AKA “Dead Beat” ) was shot on Super-8 Kodachrome 40 sound reversal film. The camera used was a Nizo 6080. Seen here is a 10 minute segment of this originally 45 minute film, taken from a VHS dub ( film to Beta SP to VHS ) with some tightening on iMovie. The project was originally double-system edited on film. Camera original was cut using a PGP 6 plate Super-8 flatbed editor-incorporating the “Super-8 Sound” sync sound system: Mag IV fullcoat recorder and Elmo GS1200 projector. The location sound for all the interior scenes ( except one ) was recorded with the fullcoat recorder. The location sound for all the exterior scenes ( and the interior scene of Neil searching around the house for Mary ) was recorded on the film sound stripe; and then transferred to fullcoat for editing. Dialog, effects, and music tracks were then transferred to a multi-track cassette recorder for the mix. The final edited sound was then resolved back to a master fullcoat which was then recorded back onto the film’s magnetic track. The film’s magnetic track was used, at first, during the Rank Cintel telecine; but the sound on the Beta-SP dub was later re-recorded …
