Question by LuviDuvi: How beneficial is it to be a filmmaker having watched tons of movies? vs not?
To be honest I am NOT a big fan of movies,….nor have I seen alot of movies. If someone were to ask me “Have you seen this movie, or heard of THIS movie” my answer is usually “No”…..occasionally I may say “Yes, I HAVE seen this movie or that movie” …. but for someone wanting to be a filmmaker screenwriter, I surely am not intouch with films. I am in college and I am taking film courses(which of course involve films and terminology), but still. Am I doing anything wrong by not liking movies as much as I should. I am surprised I know who Alfred Hitchcock is, but even still i didn’t find out about him until 2006. Point is how beneficial is it as a filmmaker, to watch tons of films? Or can you be a successful filmmaker without it, but still knowing your terminology. I don’t even have a favorite director or movie, or favorite production yet.

first of all, why do you want to be a filmmaker if you aren’t a big fan of movies?
and yes you can be good without having seen tons of movies, but it would help and could give you ideas.
