Question by tjcrazyfool: How big is the difference between real rain and fake rain from a program like Final Cut Pro in a short film?
I have a project for a short film but since I am a student it seems too complicated to film in the rain, even though here in San Francisco it rains a lot, but how would the audience note fake rain from an editing program like Final Cut Pro?

Real rain will always look better. You should examine the possibility of “making” rain and shooting in a way that makes it appear to completely cover your set. Smaller sets, shooting through a window, in a car, etc.
You can find a creative solution, usually not too costly after a trip to a hardware/garden supply store.
