Question by craig.simons: How do film production companies get companies to make law enforcement patches?
I’m helping to make an independent film where there will be a sheriff and a sheriff’s deputy. The Sheriff is the main character and the deputy is a supporting character, so they’ll be seen a lot in the film. So, we’re trying to put the uniforms together and ideally, we would like to have the fictional county on the patch itself. BUT, I don’t know where to start in finding a company that will do this. Anyone else have experience in this area? Please help if you do.

First you design the patch and make a full size color drawing. Then you find a company that does machine embroidery and give them a call. They will make the patches for you and you are on your way. It is perfectly legal to make a uniform that looks like a police uniform as long as you aren’t actually impersonating a police officer.
