Question by Diane: How valuable is an undergraduate degree in film studies?
I have pretty strong grades (3.94 unweighted GPA right now) and good community service, so I know I can get into a good school for a lot programs. However, I am a huge movie buff and would like to become a filmmaker. I like making art, but am not especially talented and haven’t devoted much time to fine arts. I want to be a filmmaker because I want to be able to tell great stories, and words alone have not always worked for me. My question really is, what is the value of an undergraduate film degree versus a graduate degree, and does either offer much job security? References would be very helpful.
Also, how much do my grades matter compared to a portfolio?
Are there only a few highly competitive schools that make it worthwhile anyway? I haven’t accumulated much of a portfolio, but there is still time.

i always like to use examples in some of my answers , i can’t give you any information except to say that look at rich people who became successfull , many of them are college drop outs or even high school drop outs , this tells me a lot because the school system is an expensive useless overpaid baby sitting service and that is why the west will fall and the east will rise as a result of the stupid school system and government control waist of our hard earn tax dollars .
again in my opinion there is no value in education , go right to work and earn money and educate yourself on the job , forget the school crap it’s not worth it .
don’t waist your time paying someone to teach you nothing .
why does it take someone 12 years to learn something you can learn in 6 years ?
