And it’s not even because I don’t know what I enjoy. I’ve easily narrowed that down. I love psychology, philosophy, film, and literature.
I know I want to communicate through a creative form. I want to be able to tell stories and engage people. I know that art has gotten many people through rough times.
I am torn as to whether or not I want to push towards becoming a director or novelist. I believe that regardless of which I choose, I will always have a back-up plan if I don’t succeed…I could edit news, or perhaps I could write columns for a local paper. So, I don’t have a fear of failing.
I am 18, and I passionately want to give the world the best I have to offer. So, I feel that I need to know which of the two I want to pursue now. I want to be totally committed towards a goal, so that I can focus most of my time on it.
As a child, I wanted to be a writer. I got an award for writing about a girl with a dress made of glass, living in a strange world. Since then, writing has clicked for me. I just won an award from the Ayn Rand Institute for an essay I wrote.
At one point in time, I hated watching films. I started taking film classes in high school, and I got hooked. The taste of being in a film festival is unlike any other. I’ve also grown to delight in film because it combines many arts. I’ve always enjoyed mixing and meddling with different arts: writing, painting, mixed media, music, and film are all things I have meddled with. The ability to combine all of these is an intoxicating possibility.
How do I make this decision? I know I am 18, but I want to start working now. I want to have focus.

It sounds like what you want to do is not far from another. If you want to write and be near film become a screen writer. Once you get to college your decision will become made. Trust me I had the same problem. I wanted to act, write, and become a voice actress. lol. I finally figured that I needed to major in Communications and become a a broadcast journalist such as a news anchor or a tv reporter. I have to take acting classes in my degree, voice classes as well, and I write my stories.
