Question by hello: I’m making a documentary about self-harm. What should I be sure to include?
I’m going to be a senior in high school next year. As a third-year advanced film production student, my teacher basically lets us do whatever we want. This issue runs very close to me so I want to create a documentary about it. I’m thinking this will run about 20-30 minutes and include the stories of self-injurers. How can I go about asking them questions without being rude?
I know this is a risk but I know it will pay off. As a former self-harmer, I hear people talking about it in an ignorant, joking way and it makes me sick. I want to clear up misconceptions and try to make a difference in the only way I know how. What are some things I should put in the film?

If they are willing to answer your questions be careful how you ask them your questions and I would say avoid asking about the marks it has left on them, instead you can ask them about what has made them start and how doing it makes them feel.
