Not the whole speech by Malik Zulu Shabazz (leader of the New Black Panther Party) but the three part video keeps the context of what was said at the event in Newberry, SC on July 17, 2010. The march was in response to the arrest of Gergory Collins who allegedly shot, killed and then drug former service member Anthony Hill with a rope around his neck that was attached to the bumper of Collins’ pick up truck. The Black Panthers came to Newberry to demand the crime be tried as a “Hate Crime”. As a 100% independent and non-bias videographer at the event, I can say it was completely without incident while I was there. The crowd seemed large for such a small town. I was a bit surprized there was no media check-in, I think that is something that the Party could us at their next event. I did not recieve a formal press release which would have helped me prepare for how to shoot the event. Malik seems like a very powerful speaker with excellent vocal quality and passion. He also has a very natural charisma which will serve him well as a lawyer and public face of the organization. The police did an excellent job providing security for the event as well. I had some concern going to the event as I was unsure of the presence of radical white supremacy groups in the area, but there were no confrontations between people. Some of the protestors were a bit rude to me. Not specifically because of my race, but perhaps they were just caught up in the event and nobody likes a guy with a …
