I was in high school when this movie came out. I remember seeing the commercial preview for this film and thought nothing of it. It wasn’t until 1993 when I stayed up all night out of restlessness that I flipped through the TV channels and saw this movie starting. I was hooked from the start and at it’s conclusion I was completely blown away by this film’s audacity to challenge racial hatred head on. If I can describe this movie in one word then I will choose the word “authentic”. The movie was called Lean On Me. This film starred Morgan Freeman. He was an actor that seemed to be an unknown at the time.This in my opinion made him famous. Morgan gave us the performance of a life time and the film turned into a sleeper hit over night. This film is loaded with life lessons not only for our youth but also for the mentors who teach them. This film is a must see for everyone. I have included here 2 clips. The first one I cut out the insignificant moments but I left the second part untouched for you to sample. I hope you see this movie in it’s entirety one day. I must warn you now, this film has extreme violence and the use of such vile racist words that make me cringe. At this stage of my life I have chosen to wage war against racial hatred every time it rears it’s ugly head in my presence. I have decided to use this film in my arsenal in my fight against racism.
