Need Advice on Going to College for Teaching?
all my life i wanted to be a teacher and that’s definetely going to be my major, Elementary Education:Writing Arts. but im having a hard time chosing my minor. i thought i wanted to minor in dance so i could teach dance on the side. i also take film production classes too and my teacher says im very talented in that too. so i dont know what to do, go for dance or film.

These days, it’s important to have a variety of things you can be credentialed in. The more (and more varied) credentials you have, the more likely it is that you can keep your job in this era of layoffs and cutbacks.
Your minor should be something that will allow you to get a supplementary credential that will keep you employable, like English. If you choose the right classes, you can apply for a supplementary English credential (as an example—I’m not trying to force English on you), and, if your elementary-school teaching job disappears, you could move into an English-teaching job at a middle school or high school in the same district. (Dance won’t get you too far in the education industry, by the way.)
Visit your state’s teacher credentialing website and look at the requirements for supplementary authorizations in fields you can live with.
