We’re all immensely saddened by the loss of Sir Norman. As a filmmaker and fan, to actually have the opportunity of directing Norman in a film in which he played his legendary ‘gump’ character – WOW! What an experience. I shouted “action”, and he yelled back “Mr Grimsdale!”. What more could a fan want? I wrote the screenplay as a tribute/homage to his classic comedy, and the wonderful films directed by John Paddy Carstairs and Robert Asher for the Rank Organisation. Norman was a joy to work with and know, and I hope his fans will have as much fun watching this film as we certainly had making it. Norman himself was very pleased with the finished result. Earlier this year (2010) I began a plan of action on how to finally complete the project, which will take another 10-12 months at least (to shoot additional scenes/post-production work etc).
