When the Producer/Investor buy the right to portray someone in a film or television program the Producer/Investor buy a “bundle of legal rights”. These rights include protection from suits based on defamation, invasion of privacy and the right to publicity.
The Producer/Investor may also be seeking the cooperation of the principle, her/his family, access to friends and relatives or heirs and successors. The Producer/Investor will desire access to a personal and private facts/diaries that would not otherwise be available to the general public.
The Producer/Investor should always consider the possibility of fictionalizing the story. The Producer/Investor might consider changing the names of the individuals involved, the location and alterations so that the depiction release is not necessary.
This Agreement between the Depicted Person and the Producer is drafted in plain English that is easy to read and comprehend. This is a four page, fourteen clause legal Agreement. The Agreement may be filled in on your computer or printed out and filled in later.
