Question by Jensyao: back when the Fab 5 set a trend in the hip hop culture, what songs did the Michigan Wolverines get a shout out?
This is one of those questions for those really in-depth hip hop heads. Fab 5 was the 5 Michigan Freshmen who shocked the world with their baggy pants, black socks, trash talking, and attitudes from the urban environment – also the hip hop culture. (watch the recent ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary for more).
In the documentary, there were people such as Chuck D and Ice Cube reflecting on how they influenced each other. When the Fab 5 were active, Michigan sold 10 million Michigan merchandise.
I was wondering which hip hop songs did the Michigan Wolverines get a shout out?
I already found 3 that specifically did:
DIRECT
ali vegas – the specialist
@ 0:48 taking about wolverine hoodies
sway and king tech – i love the ghetto ft crooked i
@ 0:21 talking about michigan hat
lil’ wayne – earthquake
@ 0:51 my pinky blue and yellow like michigan
Note: hip hop songs has to DIRECTLY refer to the university of michigan, blue, yellow, wolverines, etc
there were lesser known tribute songs called blue and yellow i’m aware of after the black and yellow
– somewhat

@ 0:34
Kanye West/Home Coming

2Pac/High Speed
Dame Dash/Champion
MC Breed/Rap Game
Ultramagnetic MC’s/Funky (Remix)
The Notorious BIG/Hypnotize
Trick Trick/Welcome to Detroit ft Eminem
The Game/Dope Boys
these just rap about the whole state of Michigan or a city like Lansing or Detroit. I’m talking about just the the university of michigan, blue, yellow, wolverines, etc
