Question by Kevin S: How do I create a swarm of bees for a short film I’m making?
Hi!
I’ve shot a short film and I need a CG swarm of bees to follow my main character from the left side of the frame to the right side. I’m not interested in seeing the detail in every little bee, just something that can tell the audience that the character is being chased by a swarm. I have After Effects and Motion, if that’s any help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

for normal film wihout using cg you would need a clip of the sound of bees. (which can be obtained from U-tube or google easily) then using 3 sheets or screens of fishing wire, , past bees on the screens of fishing wire and shake them. (2-3 people.)
for the swarm. I’d consider it the same. use 2-5 overlapping screens. in a single picture box. on one screen you’d need to dot a few ‘bees’, copy, paste then shift the other ones left or up or right or left or mirror image just to give the impression of a swarm. I’d give each of the screens a different looping motion slightly off from each other within a single picture box so the effect is less rigid.
no idea if this helps you or not or if you’ve the time to give looping motions to individual particles. but good luck.
