Question by DathGlas: Is a goal to be a film director or actor pointless / stupid / improbable?
I have always had great interest in cinema, art, photography and music. I’ve never really been book smart, I’ve liked being creative (not saying I’m stupid, I find no interest in subjects such as math or science). Besides my obvious love for creativity, I love studying culture, literature, and history.
It’s always been a goal of mine to do something in the field of film whether it be directing and producing or even acting (though I’ve never had lessons, and I’m very aware this is an epidemic for most kids my age, 17 / 18, I think it would be great yet I realize it’s improbable).
Anyways, I’m going into my senior year of high school and I’m taking elective courses in Yearbook (not really pertaining to film), TV Production II, Photography II and III (in order to increase my knowledge of mutual techniques used in film and photography). I am planning on taking my prereq classes at a local university and then I’m applying for FSU’s film school after about 2 years of prereq.
I’m also doing some short films with a friend this Summer in order to have some good material for a portfolio.
I have all of this planned out in my head, and it seems like I can make it work, heck I’m actually (planning on) getting a degree in the field, not planning to just walk into Hollywood and expect to be hired with no experience.
Anyways, all of this being said, is my goal hopeless? I really would love to see this come true. I’m not even aiming to be a major motion picture director, I just want to do something with creative film.
“You’ve already got a plan and that’s the fearsome claws on your velociraptor of a dream”
That is the most amazing quote ever! Haha! Thanks so much for the immediate feedback, I really have a passion for the things I take interest in and I tend to do them wholeheartedly, my biggest concern is actually getting accepted into FSU’s film school. But then again, “obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

You’ll get experience in the script, camera shot and vocabulary and all in RTF courses. Its a real business and you can work your way up to getting with the right people to get a movie out.
