Question by XxNika-chanxX: Is wanting to be an artist a bad thing?
Any art related career. Fine arts, instrumental, digital, animation, film, etc.
I was telling my friend how it’s hard to find decent art schools in our area, she said she wouldn’t want to go to art school because most artists are starving artists. I said they’re starving because they’re not doing it right/trying hard enough. She still disagrees and says that for most artists, even if they’re talented, money is still an issue. I said if someone wanted to make a ton of money, they’d be a doctor or a lawyer and that art is a passion, something you do for the love not the money.
When I was younger, I loved art but said I wanted to be a doctor because they make money and get to have nice things. Now, I’ve been wanting to become an animator because it’s something I have a passion for and really want to do. Not running tests on patients or giving check-ups.
Am I wrong for wanting to do this? Is it just going to lead me into the life of a ‘starving artist’ or a ‘jobless freelancer’? Is it bad that I don’t give a crap about the money as long as I get to do what I love?

The trick is to become an artist at whatever it is you do. If it’s waiting tables in a diner. Make it an art. If it’s being a doctor. Make it an art. If it’s driving a cab. Make it an art. Art is your attitude.
