Question by Angelic A: Need advice about college degree choice.?
I messed up early in life. I didn’t follow anything I wanted and just did what my mom told me to do. Two years ago she died and I’ve been scattered ever since.
I’ve spent 2 years at a nearby college for a BA in Education. But I hate it! I don’t want to be a teacher. I really want to do is become a filmmaker. But there’s nothing like that near where I live.
After wasting a year unable to decide and taking a break from schoo, I think I’ve decided that the best way to get to my dreams is finish quickly, build credit, get a loan for my dream filmschool and then get a job as quickly as possible after that.
With that goal in mind, would it be a good decision to switch to an A.A.S in Business Management or Accounting? I’m sure be able to graduate in one year instead of two. But will I be able to get a decent job with that while going to Filmschool, or saving to go, or good enough to help pay off the loan? Or should i just suck it up and be more patient and get a BA?

If you don’t want to be a teacher then spending any more time on a teaching degree does not seem to be a good idea. On the other hand, you probably have got out of the way a lot of required courses for many undergraduate degrees and can transfer credits into something you would like to do. Seems to me you should be in a BFA program somewhere. Are you sure some campus of your state school doesn’t have that?
Good luck.
