Question by superperson: starter Video Camera for short films? help me find one pleasee?
Can anyone help me find a good video camera for shooting short films?
A bit of background, I am 17, a senior, always interested in art and productions, and I am just looking to expand that interest a bit. I am looking for a video camera of very good quality to shoot films (something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy0HNWto0UY) I am very interested in movie editing programs as well if you have any suggestions for a good, somewhat cheap software for editing. This will be my first video camera, and I do not know entirely too much about them, so I don’t exactly need a space camera, but anything good to learn on if you can help suggest any?
Below I put some things that may help narrow down the range.
Budget- I have $ 250 ready in hand however I am willing for any suggestions of up to $ 1,500 ish
However, keep in mind this will be my first video camera…so I am guessing I should keep it cheap for the first time around, and upgrade later when I see how I get into the hobby. Preferably keep it under $ 500

What I will use it for- Short films, class projects, college projects, music videos, skate films
–
Conditions to be used in- I live in central Florida, so it is pretty hot through most of the year and really humid…Just adding this in because I don’t know much about how sensitive cameras are to conditions like this (im not exactly looking for a 1500$ camera to crap out on me because of a little condensation or something)
Also, I am not sure how rugged cameras are, I assume they vary, but because I may use it for projects like skate films, I would prefer a camera that won’t need some $ 100 part replaced if I drop it two inches
I would need a camera with great quality both indoors and outdoors with natural as well as artificial lighting
–
New VS. Used- I am open to either, it will be my first camera so I have no idea if it is better to go one way or the other, or if I should buy one with some sort of insurance or warranty?
Summary of questions…..haha, sorry but my thoughts are a bit jumbled so I figured it make it a bit easier by putting this sooo:
-Suggestion of video camera?
—-If not a camera, then any suggestions for certain companies or stores to buy from?
—-Warranty/Insurance? yay or nay
-Suggestion of video editing software?
As a thank-you for helping me (I know this is actually kind of a lot of help I’m asking for, if I use your suggestions I will get in touch with you somehow on this site and one of my first project ideas involves a bunch of pictures in the movie, so you can send me pictures to put in the movie if you want…I don’t know, just an incentive lol)
Once again, please and thank-you, I am really hoping this is the beginning of my next addiction 🙂

You may try this Video Editor, it’s a nice video editing software that can help you edit, join, split, trim, crop, convert and cut video, my friends recommend it to me, it’s easy to use and works pretty well for me, it embeds many special effects. I had made a video with it and the video got award, that’s pretty cool. Here is the free download link.
