Question by : What are some reliable acting classes in the D.c.-Silver spring area?
Hello, I’m charles and i’m 12. I am looking for some reliable acting classes in the D.C – Silver spring area, preferably ones in silver spring to acheive my acting goal of being a professional on film. I have looked into Balozi productions, but I’m not sure if thats the one I want. I am looking for one that not only teaches the craft, but helps me get an agent and get a resume together. Any suggestions please?

Hi Charles,
The only place I know of that teaches acting and film to kids and teens in this area is Imagination Stage (http://www.imaginationstage.org) in Bethesda.
There are a lot of really good acting programs for kids and teens in this area, so even if you decide to simply find a place that gives you a strong base in acting (even if it’s not specifically for film), you have several choices.
When I was a kid, I took classes at Round House Theatre: http://www.roundhousetheatre.org
And right in Silver Spring is Lumina Studio Theatre: http://www.luminastudio.org
They have a lot of acting opportunities for kids and teens there. Classes as well as putting on full productions. They have one adult production a year with professional actors in it and they use many of their students for the shows as well. It’s a great opportunity for the students to work with professionals.
These three places are probably a few of the best in the DC area and they should be close to you. I’ve worked with all three theatres (I’m currently in a production with Imagination Stage) and I know they do quality work. As a kid, I studied with Round House, as a teen I worked with Imagination Stage (“Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts” back then), and Lumina didn’t exist when I was a kid, but I wish it did. It’s cool to come full circle and work professionally with a theatre I studied under when I was just starting out.
I know for a fact that some of the big DC theatres will go to Imagination Stage and Round House for recommendations when they need young actors for their shows. I did a main stage show at Studio Theatre with a 12 year old boy who was found because he did a summer acting class at Imagination Stage.
Now, that’s not a guarantee that any of these places will get you work, or even an audition – but it has happened.
