Question by Samantha Marie Rivet: What is the difference between a short film and independent film?
Are they the same? Why are they different category’s? I’ve herd of independant short films…so I thought they were the same…or can they be both the same and two seperate things?
I don’t know if I’m making sense at all…but thanks.

A full length feature runs anywhere from 85 minutes to 2 and a half hours or a bit more. An independent film is simply one with private financing or financing outside of the traditional studio system. Short films are traditionally less than 20 minutes long. Just about every short film is an indie film as there isn’t really a market for them. The closest a studio comes to a short film are the lengthy marketing trailers that you watch before other films or on the web.
